Selection Process
Our selection policy is based on nationally determined criteria. The criteria are sport specific and set by the relevant Governing Bodies. The general inclusion criteria are:
The athlete must:
- Compete in one of the Fully Supported or Targeted Support Sport Programmes (see list below for link to the sport specific selection policy).
- Be eligible to compete for Scotland and have made a commitment to do so.
- Have the potential to be Scottish Institute athletes in the future.
- Be developing and improving.
- Be identified by their National Governing Body against a nationally agreed benchmark.
- Be able to benefit from inclusion in Area Institute programmes.
- Live, work, train or study within the geographical area of the area institute making the selection.
- Have potential to produce winning performances at British, European, Commonwealth, World, Olympic or Paralympic level, at either age group or senior level.
- Be the athletes with the greatest potential in their sport not already supported through the Scottish Institute of Sport structure.
