Highland Institute of Sport

Strength and Conditioning

Strength and Conditioning remains an integral part of our athlete programmes in terms of enhancing performance and preventing injury.  The Highland Institute of sport have enhanced their provision of this service, generating four supervised sessions per week held in our facilities at Inverness Leisure.

As we aim for optimal progression and peak performance, athletes follow personalised programmes based on a needs analysis in accordance with the individual and their sporting requirements.  Coaches and athletes remain integral to this process so the objectives of both can remain the key target.

To make training venues more accessible for athletes, the Highland Institute of Sport have Strength and Conditioning facilities on Orkney, at Thurso High School (supervised sessions once a fortnight), at Tain Royal Academy (supervised sessions once a week), Glenmore Lodge, and at the Highland Football Academy in Dingwall.  Strength and Conditioning sessions are supervised at Inverness Leisure by Catriona Walker, John Coogans, Neil Bowman, Jas Hepburn and Vince Walker with Garry Burton taking sessions on Orkney.  It is hoped that this year will see an increase in the number of coaches coming into the Highland Institute which will ensure continual progression of the provision of this service.
