| Name: Ben Kilner Sport: Snowboarding ![]() | I have been snowboarding since I was nine years old. I have always enjoyed different sports and participated in athletics, football and martial arts before finally deciding that I would pursue a career as a professional snowboarder. My second love is golf, and whenever I am at home I spend hours on the golf course trying to reduce my handicap. Snowboarding is a relative new sport and I am proud to have been part of the GB Halfpipe snowboarding team since the early stages of development representing Scotland. I have now been part of the GB Snowboard Half Pipe World Cup team for over 3 years and hold a Gold Olympic Passport. The 2010 Winter Olympic Games rapidly approaches and all my training is now geared towards qualification. Last year was very productive with some good World Cup results and my goal to be inside the world top 50 was attained, finishing in 43rd on the World Cup ranking. This meant that I would retain my World Cup spot for 08/09 season, the Olympic Qualifying year. I was at the Olympic Medical Institute in June this year for fitness testing and was pleased that my strength and conditioning had greatly improved from last year. This was greatly helped by the S & C programme that had been developed for me by the HIS. In June / July I attended the Camp of Champions in Whistler Canada for some early pre-season training and will soon be heading off to New Zealand for 7 weeks for more training and the first World Cup of the season in Cadrona prior to the season beginning in October. The 08/09 season is Olympic qualification time so I am hoping to improve from my current position and move up into the top 30 and hopefully meet all qualification Criteria. Its going to be tough but my confidence is high. |
