Profile

Name: Jamie Henderson

Sport: Squash

My name is Jamie Henderson, I live in Thurso and attend Thurso High School where I am in 4th year.
I started playing squash when I was 12 having previously played badminton but I soon realized that I preferred squash and joined The Thurso Squash club at the age of 13.
In my first competitive year I go to the semi finals in the under 15’s National Championships, I won my County and Club Championships under 15 and under 19, and I finished No1 ranked under 15 at the end of July 2008.
During April this year I was selected for the Heriot-Watt University Squash Academy and shortly after that I was selected to the Highland Institute of Sport. I train with the Academy at Heriot Watt once a month, including six weekend training sessions, and with the Highland Institute twice a week for strength and conditioning, which I feel has benefited me so much already.
As I have quite a distance to travel to the Highland Institute I am grateful to them for liaising with my school who kindly allow me time off when necessary for training and competing. My short term aim is to get my under 17 ranking higher, to compete on the Scottish and European circuit, and to work hard on my fitness and movement, which would enable me to compete to the best of my ability.
