| Name: Andrew Young Sport: XC Skiing ![]() | I began skiing at the age of 2, as soon as I could walk and there was snow in Scotland. I learned to downhill ski and XC ski at the same time, but went down the road of XC because my parents were involved with the local ski club, Huntly Nordic ski club. I went to club training days and events and improved my skills. Older club members already in the British Nordic development squad (BNDS) came back to train with the club. I could feed of them and their information and improve more without knowing I was doing it. At the age of 10 I first raced abroad in Canada at club level races. Then at the age of 11 I started skiing with the BNDS who took me on winter training camps and low level club races in Europe. Things began to improve form there until this season were I became Austrian Champion at my age and qualified for world cup. I also became ranked number 2 in Britain and number 1 in the world for my age. Next season I hope to race at a few world cups, EYOW, the world senior champs and world junior champs. My aims for the season are to improve to the extent where I can be a serious medal contender at the EYO and to get my world ranking down. |
